Taking off and landing an aircraft with a tail wheel may take a little more skill, but once mastered, it opens up a whole new category of aircraft—and landing fields—for you to enjoy. Get the skills and confidence you need from some of the best and most experienced instructors you’ll find anywhere.

To complete the tail-wheel conversion course, you must:

  • Hold at least a student pilot’s permit
  • Complete ground school (seminar or individual briefing)
  • Complete seven RFC flight lesson plans.

Before being cleared to rent the Decathlon, candidates will complete ground instruction and be able to operate the aircraft, including both three-point and wheel landings, to the instructor’s satisfaction. Renters must also satisfy any additional RFC or insurance requirements.
